Sen. Bernard Sanders was newly elected to the Senate for the 111th Congress. The senator was not able to participate in Senate legislation prior to January 2008, and has not been graded on these legislative measures.

Senator-elect Sanders was member of the House of Representatives for the state of Vermont prior to being elected to the Senate. As a member of the House of Representatives, Senator-elect Sanders co-sponsored the Darfur Peace and Accountability Act, and the NATO Bridging Force. He also voted in favor of the Darfur Peace and Accountability Act, Funding Amendment for Protection, Funding Amendment for Humanitarian Aid, NATO Bridging Force, and Presidential Special Envoy. He received an "A" for his performance in the House of Representatives.
On June 12, 2006 Rep. Sanders participated in and spoke at a Darfur rally in Burlington, Vermont.
On April 30, 2006 he sent a letter of support to those in attendance at a Darfur Rally in Rutland, VT.

Bernard Sanders has received a cumulative grade of “B” for co-sponsoring and voting in favor of most Darfur legislation, but not being a champion of the cause. We need more consistent support from this senator in order to protect the people in Darfur. Genocide cannot be a one-time issue for Bernard Sanders — it must always be at the top of the senator’s agenda.
