Additional Information
On May 8, 2007, signed a letter to President Bush asking him to send a clear message to Sudan that they must ensure continued humanitarian access.
In February 2007, Senator Feingold introduced Senate Resolution 76 that calls for a comprehensive strategy to protect civilians, reduce violence, and contribute to a lasting peace in the Darfur, eastern Chad, and Central African Republic region.
In January 2007, Senator Feingold wrote letters to influential presidents of African Union (AU) member states urging them not to allow the government of Sudan to chair the AU in 2007.
In September 2006, Senator Feingold wrote to Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Richard Lugar asking for a full committee hearing on Darfur to discuss policy options for addressing the rapid deterioration of conditions in Darfur.
Senator Feingold has delivered several floor statements on the need for aggressive U.S. and international action to halt the genocide in Darfur (in April, May, and September 2006).
Senator Feingold co-sponsored Senate Amendment 3777 to the Emergency Appropriations Bill of 2006.
The Senator has sent oversight letters to the President, Secretary Rice, and to African Union Chairman Denis Sassou-Nguesso. He has also signed letters to the Arab League, and the foreign ministers of China and Russia, urging them to pressure the government of Sudan to stop the violence in Darfur.
